Why do we Support a Charter
Ranked Choice Voting
Ranked choice or approval voting would both be improvements over our current voting process.
Ranked choice voting would allow people to vote for the candidate they support without having to worry they are helping the candidate they like the least by dsplitting the vote or spoiling the election.
Voter Initiatives
Thurston residents outside the city limits of Olympia, Tumwater, and Lacey should be allowed to put issues on the ballot too! A home rule charter would allow for the county to do voter initiatives for all issues.
District Elections
Currently, County Commissioners are elected by district for their primary election, but across the whole county. We think the general election should be by district as well.
County commission candidates should be able to knock the doors of the people who vote for them. Having commission candidates elected county-wide makes them more dependent on the major parties to get their message out. Districted elections make our elections more democratic.
